Person of the Year

William J Wadsworth has been selected as the 2023 Romulus Person of the Year!

William Wadsworth, a longtime Romulus resident, has been selected by The Greater Romulus Chamber of Commerce, to be the 36th Romulus person of the year. He was selected for his dedication and devotion to improving the community of Romulus. Also known as Bill, he has been a resident of Romulus for 55 years. He is married to Virginia, and together, they raised three sons, who have all graduated from the Romulus Community School System.

Bill and his wife are members of Saint Aloysius Church also for 55 years. When the church used to hold a Labor Day weekend festival, he volunteered his time to working on the festival.

His main passion was to raise the funds necessary to construct a new animal shelter, in order to replace an aging and inadequate facility. It was located in an old fire station. Over many years, he did this by organizing and working at many fundraising activities, such as bingo and bowling. He also solicited cash donations totaling $355,000.00. He obtained many donated materials with a value of $42,000.00. This beautiful facility is located on Wayne Road in Romulus.

Bill is a veteran. He served his country in the United States Army for three years. He was a Sherriff in the Wayne County police department, from 1969 to 1982. He patrolled the Romulus community, because there was no local police department at that time. Then he served as a sergeant at Detroit Metro Airport (located in Romulus) from 1982 to 2004.

Bill has served on several City of Romulus boards and commissions with no compensation. He is a member of the Romulus Chamber of Commerce.

Bill also happens to be the longest serving council member in The City of Romulus.

A banquet is planned for the spring of 2023 to honor Bill for his extraordinary service to the Romulus Community.
